An Overview of My Family Law Practice
Over the past 33 years as an attorney in Buckhannon, West Virginia, I have handled more than 4,000 family law cases. I understand the legal, financial and emotional issues involved in cases involving divorce and family law.
Please contact me for effective representation in the full range of family law issues, including:
- Divorce: When it's time to end a marriage, you need a divorce lawyer who is dedicated to protecting your interests. I'm here to guide you through the process so that you can move on with your life.
- Child custody and child support: I help parents who are divorcing as well as parents who have never been married establish a workable legal framework for supporting and raising their children.
- Paternity: Officially called allocation of parental rights, establishing the paternity of a child gives the father the right to be a part of the child's life and gives the mother the ability to collect child support payments.
- Domestic violence: If you are the victim of domestic violence, I will help arrange for a protective order. If you are charged with domestic abuse, I can help you defend yourself and help you correct the problems that led to the charges.
- Adoption: Stepparent adoption can help unite "blended families." If you are seeking to adopt your spouse's children from another relationship, I can help.
- Modifications/contempt: Because requests for modifications require strict compliance with West Virginia statues, they should not be sought without the assistance of an experienced lawyer. If you have experienced a substantial change in circumstances, such as the loss of a job or a remarriage, your court-ordered child support and child custody arrangements may need to be modified. I also help clients with enforcement of court orders when a former spouse is in contempt of court.
